A customer can put the storefront on a phone's home screen. It then opens as an app of its own, without an address bar, with the storefront's icon, name and colours.

Where: The App icon field under Content on Header in the designer.

How a customer installs the storefront

  • Android, Chrome: the ⋮ menu › Install app or Add to home screen. Chrome can also show a box of its own.
  • iPhone, Safari: Share › Add to Home Screen.

The menus are in the phone's language. The storefront has no install button of its own. The browser offers it.

The storefront can be installed once it has an app icon. Without one the field says: No app icon yet: phones cannot install the shop.

Add the app icon

  1. Open the designer and the Components tab.
  2. Click Header. The App icon field is under Favicon.
  3. Press Choose image and pick the picture in the media library, or paste the address of a picture.
  4. Publish the theme.

A picture that is not square, or is smaller than 512 px, is refused. The field gives its size, for example That picture is 70 × 70 px. The icon you had stays.

An SVG is refused, because an iPhone cannot use it on the home screen. If the app icon you have is already an SVG, the field says the same. Replace it with a PNG.

A phone that already has the storefront on its home screen can show the old icon for a while. An iPhone keeps it until the customer adds the storefront again.

The app starts on the storefront's home page. Prices, the cart and the checkout always come from the network. Nothing is stored for use offline. A new name or a published theme reaches the app's details within five minutes.

The Home screen state in the designer

Under State on Header there is the state Home screen. It shows three phones: the home screen with the icon and the name, the start screen and the storefront opened from the icon. The state is picked by itself when you click in App icon. You change the colours as usual under Colours on Header.

Private storefront

A private storefront can be installed too. The app's details, that is the name, the colours and the icon, can be read without a code. The catalogue is shown to members only, as before. See Access groups and private storefronts.

The admin as an app

The admin can be installed the same way, from the browser's menu on bunstack.co. It opens without an address bar, with the BunStack icon, and starts on the sign-in page. If you are already signed in you go straight to the workspace's Home.

Notifications in the app for a new order are not available yet.
