Goes well with: suggestions in the cart
Suggest products in the cart and the checkout, per category and per product, and rows of linked categories on product pages.
"Goes well with" is a row in the cart and the checkout with products that belong with what is already in the cart. You choose the suggestions per category and per product.
Where: Products › Categories, Edit on the category, the Suggested in the cart part. Products › [product], the Details card, the Suggested with this product part. For rows on the product page: Products › Categories, Edit on the category, the Linked categories part.
Suggestions per category
- Open Products › Categories.
- Press Edit on the category, for example Hobby rackets.
- Type at least 2 characters of the title in the field "Search products to add…" under Suggested in the cart.
- Press the result.
The suggestion saves at once, not with Save. The search shows at most 8 active products. ↑ and ↓ change the order. The cross removes the suggestion. A list holds at most 12 products.
A subcategory without a list of its own uses the nearest parent category's list. A subcategory with its own list uses only its own. Put a case, a cleaner and a sponge on Hobby rackets and they are suggested for every racket in Hobby rackets and in its subcategories.
Under the list, a subcategory says which list its products use. An empty list reads, for example, Empty: its products use the list of Hobby rackets (3). With a list of its own it reads Its products use this list instead of the list of Hobby rackets. Its own list replaces the parent's; it does not add to it.
Suggestions per product
Suggested with this product is in the Details card on the product, under Add-ons offered here. You add, move and remove suggestions the same way as for a category.
The product's own suggestions come before the suggestions of its categories.
The order in the row
- The suggestions for the products in the cart, in the cart's order.
- The categories' suggestions, product by product in the cart's order. The product's own categories come before a category it inherits a list from.
- A product suggested more than once shows once, in its first place.
The row shows at most 6 products.
What is not suggested
- Products already in the cart, in any variant.
- Products in draft or archived, not in the storefront or hidden there.
- Products the storefront does not sell right now: every variant is in the stock mode Out of stock, or no stock is left above the stock threshold on Automatic. See Stock.
- Products without a price in the customer's currency.
- Services. A service asks the customer on its own page, so it is not added from the row. The search under Suggested in the cart and Suggested with this product shows no services. A product in a list that was made a service stays there with service, not shown. See Services.
- Products with Sold only as an add-on on. They are offered as add-ons, see Add-ons.
What the customer sees
| Where | The row |
|---|---|
| The cart page | Under the items, with the heading "Goes well with" |
| The cart drawer | Under the items, in both settings of Cart |
| The checkout, first step | In the order summary, under the items. On a phone when the customer opens the summary |
| The checkout, payment step | Not shown. The Kustom order has a fixed amount once the payment window is open |
The row does not show when there is nothing to suggest. A storefront in Swedish shows "Passar till" and the button "Lägg till".
The "Add" button does what the buy button on a product card does:
| The product has | The button |
|---|---|
| No variants, or one variant sold now | Puts the product in the cart. The button shows "Added" |
| Several variants, or one variant that is sold out or on preorder | Opens the product page, where the customer chooses |
In the checkout the items, the shipping and the total update when the customer adds something. A discount code is checked again against the new cart. A suggestion does not open the cart drawer. The add is sent as add_to_cart, see Tracking and Google Tag Manager.
Linked categories
A category can link up to three other categories. The product pages of its products then show one row per link: a heading, 4 products from the linked category and "View all", which opens the category page. Link Rubbers to Blades with the heading "Rubbers for this blade", and every blade's page shows four rubbers and View all.
- Open Products › Categories.
- Press Edit on the category, for example Blades.
- Under Linked categories, pick a category in the list "+ Add a category…".
- Write a heading in the field beside it, for example "Rubbers for this blade". An empty field shows the category's name.
The link saves at once, not with Save. The heading saves when you leave the field. You can type in the next field while it saves. If a save is refused, the stored headings come back. What you are typing in another field stays and saves when you leave it. A move or a removal you make meanwhile is done after it. ↑ and ↓ change the order of the rows. The cross removes the link. A category has at most 3 links. The list shows the whole tree. The category itself and the categories already linked cannot be picked.
A subcategory without links of its own uses the links of the nearest parent category. A subcategory with links of its own uses only its own. Under an empty block, a subcategory shows its parent's links greyed, for example Empty: its products use the links of Rubbers (1). With links of its own it reads Its products use these links instead of the links of Rubbers.
What the rows show
- The rows come after the reviews and before You may also like. In the designer they are the Linked categories section under Pages › Product page. There you move it, switch it off and set Columns per screen size. The categories and headings are chosen only on the category. See Page templates.
- Each row shows the first 4 products of the linked category, in the category's own order, as the category page lists them. On a computer the 4 stand in one row, on a phone in two rows of two.
- A product in several categories gets the links of all of them. Each linked category shows once, and the page shows at most 3 rows.
- Not shown: the product the page is about, products in draft or archived, products not in the storefront or hidden there, products the storefront does not sell right now (see Stock) and products with Sold only as an add-on on, see Add-ons. A row without a product to show is left out.
- You may also like skips the products that already stand in the rows.
- A storefront in Swedish shows "Visa alla" for "View all".
- When the visitor's country is under Not sold to, the rows follow the rule like the rest of the page: the cards have no quick add, and with Prices hidden no prices. See Not sold to.
Goes well with in the cart does not change.
How it differs from add-ons
| Shown | Chosen by | |
|---|---|---|
| Add-ons | On product pages, in the cart and checkout, or inside another add-on | You, with rules on the add-on |
| Related products | On the product page | BunStack, products in the same category |
| Goes well with | In the cart and the checkout | You, per category and per product |
| Linked categories | On the product page, after the reviews | You, per category |
A Goes well with suggestion becomes a line of its own and asks nothing. An add-on can belong to a line, go with it and ask questions.
