Products
Change many products
Filter the product list by category and stock mode, and change the category, weight and dimensions, stock mode and slug of many products at once.
The product list filters by category and stock mode. On the selected products you change the category, weight and dimensions, stock mode and slug. You set status and vendor straight in the black bar, see Products.
Where: Products.
Filter the list
| Filter | Shows |
|---|---|
| All categories | Every product |
| No category | Products without a category |
| A category | Products in the category. With Include subcategories, also products in the categories under it. The box shows when the category has subcategories and starts ticked |
| All stock modes | Every product |
| A variant on Automatic and the other modes | Products with at least one variant in the stock mode, see Stock |
The filters combine with each other, with the status tabs, the vendor and the search. The list shows at most 500 products, filtered or not. The stock filter can be in the address, for example ?stock=out_of_stock, and the category filter as ?category=none.
The Categories column shows the product's categories.
Select and change
- Filter the list.
- Tick the box in the table header. Every product shown is selected. You can also tick rows one by one.
- Press a button after Change in the black bar: Categories, Weight & size, Stock mode or Slugs.
- A box opens under the bar. It shows what will change before anything is saved.
- Press the button at the bottom of the box, or Cancel.
When everything is saved, the selection clears and the list is read again. A line at the top says what changed. If an error stops the change, the error shows at the top and the selection stays, so you can try again. If fewer rows changed than planned, it says so too, for example when your role may not edit products.
Categories
| Choice | Does |
|---|---|
| Add to | Adds the category. The product's other categories stay |
| Move to | The category becomes the product's only one. Every other category is removed from the product |
| Remove from | Removes the category. Links to its subcategories stay |
Pick a category or subcategory in the list. The box says how many products change and how many are already as you want them. Move to adds the category first and removes the others after. If something stops it, a product is left in one category too many, never in none.
Pricing rules and stock thresholds per category apply to the products in the category, see Pricing rules and Stock.
Weight and dimensions
Fill in Weight (g), Length (cm), Width (cm) or Height (cm). Only the fields you fill in are written. Empty fields keep each product's value. Weight is whole grams above 0. Dimensions are centimetres above 0 with one decimal, at most 99999.9. Spaces and a decimal comma are fine, for example 1 250 and 29,5. A weight with decimals is refused, so is 1,250, which could mean 1250 or 1.25: write grams, for example 500 for half a kilo. The box says what will be written before you save.
A variant can have its own weight and dimensions. The variant's value comes before the product's in the checkout's shipping price and on the label. If a variant has its own value in a field you filled in, the box says how many, and you choose before you can save:
| Choice | Does |
|---|---|
| Clear the variants’ own … | Removes the variants' own values in those fields. The variants use the product's new value |
| Keep the variants’ own values | The variants do not change and keep their own values |
Dimensions only count as a full set: length, width and height. If one is missing, the default parcel under Settings › Shipping is used, see Sender and parcels. The box says how many products still lack a dimension.
With ProSmart connected, its stock sync writes ProSmart's weight to a variant whenever ProSmart has one for the SKU, also after you cleared it here. That weight then comes before the product's. The box says so when you set a weight, see ProSmart: stock sync.
A service has no weight or dimensions. Selected services are skipped, and the box says how many. See Services.
Stock mode
Pick Automatic, In stock (manual), Preorder or Out of stock. The box shows the variants' modes now and how many change. Only the variants whose mode changes are written. Preorder days stay as they are on each variant. The modes are described in Stock.
Selected services are skipped, and the box says how many. A service has no stock: the shop sells it whatever its variants say, and the variants stay on In stock (manual) so the cards, the search and Home show the service as available. See Services.
A variant on Out of stock is never sold, not even when ProSmart has stock. Set such variants back to Automatic:
- Pick A variant on Out of stock in the stock filter.
- Tick the box in the table header.
- Press Stock mode and pick Automatic.
- Press Set N variants.
Slug
| Choice | New slug |
|---|---|
| From titles | From the product's title, as New product makes it: lower case, å ä ö become a a o, hyphens between words |
| Find and replace | The text in Find is replaced by the text in Replace with in each slug. Plain text, not a pattern. Double hyphens and hyphens at the start and end are removed |
The box shows the current and the new slug of each product, with a note:
| Note | Means |
|---|---|
| 301 in N shops | The product is active. The old address redirects to the new one in each storefront that shows the product |
| Draft: no redirect needed | The product is a draft, and no storefront shows it. An archived product says Not active: no redirect needed |
| No shop shows it: no redirect needed | The product is active but no storefront shows it |
| No change | The slug stays the same |
| Used by “…” | Another product has the slug. The row is skipped |
| Two selected products would get this slug. | The row is skipped |
| An invalid slug | A slug has 3–128 characters: a–z, 0–9 and hyphens, not first or last. The row is skipped |
If the new address redirects elsewhere now, for example the old address of another product, the note says so. The row is not skipped, but that redirect stops working once the product shows at the address.
A product that would take a slug another product leaves in the same run is skipped. Run it again once the other one has changed. Skipped products keep their slugs and stay selected after the run, so you can open Slugs again and see why.
The box reads the products' slugs when it opens, not from the list. A slug changed elsewhere shows as it is now. One run takes at most 500 products.
Change N slugs saves all or none. In each storefront that shows an active product, a 301 is added from /products/old to /products/new, see Redirects. The line at the top says how many slugs changed and how many redirects were added. If a product changed since the box opened, no slug changes. The box says which and reads the slugs again.
The CSV import does not change slugs. There the slug is the key that finds the product, see Import products from CSV.
