Copy images from the old shop
Copy the images from the old shop's image server into BunStack and switch products, variants, categories and the shop's design to the copies.
An imported catalogue can point at the old shop's image server. The images stop showing when that server closes. Here you copy them into BunStack.
Where: Products › ⋯ › Copy images.
The page has two tabs: Products and categories and Shop design.
BunStack sets which image servers belong to the old shop. If the page says "Nothing to copy" but the images still load from the old shop: contact support.
What the page shows
When it opens, the page counts what points at the old image server. It changes nothing.
| Line | Means |
|---|---|
| Product pictures | Images on products, and on how many products |
| Variant pictures | Variants whose image is on the old server |
| Category pictures | Categories whose image is on the old server |
| Files | Unique files. A file shared by a product and its variants counts once |
| Not copied yet | Files left to copy, failed ones included |
| Copied, not switched yet | Copied files that something still loads from the old address. Shown only then |
| Copied so far | Every file copied in the workspace |
On other servers lists images on other servers. BunStack leaves them as they are.
Copy and switch
- Press Copy and switch.
- Confirm.
- Wait until the line beside the buttons says "Done".
The copy runs in batches of at most 60 files. After each batch, BunStack switches products, variants and categories to the copies. The line counts copied and failed files. The copy stops when nothing is left, or when a batch only failed. Stop after this batch stops it earlier.
If everything is copied but something still points at the old server, the button is Switch to the copies. When everything is done the badge ALL COPIED shows.
- An interrupted batch loses nothing. The next run continues where it stopped.
- BunStack never fetches a copied file again.
- The order and alt texts of the images stay.
- You can edit products meanwhile. An image you upload then stays.
Only Admin and Owner can run the copy.
Could not be copied
The table Could not be copied lists the file, the cause and the number of attempts.
| Cause | Do this |
|---|---|
| The file is not on the old server | Upload a replacement on the product |
| No answer within 30 seconds | Press Try the failed ones again |
| The file is larger than 10 MB | Upload a smaller image on the product |
| Not JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF | Upload the image in one of those formats |
| The server redirected to another address | Upload a replacement on the product |
Failed files stay on the old server and show until it closes.
The list of copies
Download list (CSV) gives each file with the old address (source_url), the copy (target_url), status, size and last error. Keep the list. BunStack does not delete the old files.
Warning: If the old image server closes too early, images that were not copied disappear. Keep the server running for at least 90 days after the switch.
After the copy
The copies are stored with the product images. On the product they show as imported images with the badge IMPORTED, see Product images. Pictures in the shop's design are copied on the tab Shop design, see below.
Shop design
The tab Shop design copies the pictures the designer uses:
- the sections on every page of every variant: what the designer has saved, what customers see and every version in History
- each variant's logo, favicon, share image and collections
- component designs and pages' share images
The row Pictures in the design shows how many pictures are on the old server, and in how many places. Only pictures are copied. A link to a page of the old shop is left as it is.
Copy and switch works as for the products. Every variant is switched, with its History, so an older version restored and published again does not bring the old addresses back.
Warning: Close the designer before you run it. While the designer is open, the page shows Close the designer first. and who has it open, and the button cannot be pressed. An open designer would otherwise save the old addresses again.
A page changed in the designer while the copy ran is not switched. The line says Run the copy again. Run the copy once more.
If the designer is opened while the pictures are copied, nothing is switched. The copies are kept, and the page shows Close the designer first. Close the designer and press Switch to the copies.
