Add-ons

Offer a service or goods with other products: on their pages, in the cart and checkout, or inside another add-on.

Last updated · 15 min read

An add-on is a product, often a service such as gluing, offered with other products. You decide with rules where it is offered and what it belongs to.

Where: Products › Add-ons lists every add-on. Where an add-on is offered is set in the ADD-ON card on the add-on's own page.

Create an add-on

  1. Open Products › Add-ons and press New add-on.
  2. Choose Work you do for a new service. Type the name, for example "Gluing", and press Create and open. The service is created as a draft, without a price.
  3. Or choose A product you sell, type at least 2 characters of the name and press the product.
  4. The product's page opens with the ADD-ON card. Tick where the add-on is offered, see the next section, and press Save in the card.
  5. Set the price. Add questions to the customer if you want, on goods too, see Services. For a service: extra days and a SKU.
  6. Set the product to active and add it to the storefront with Visible on.

The card also opens with ⋯ › Offer as an add-on on any product.

Where the add-on is offered

The ADD-ON card has three places. An add-on can have one, two or all three. The box at the top of the card says in words what you have chosen.

PlaceThe customer sees
In the cart and checkoutA row "Add-ons" in the cart and checkout with the button "Add". The button opens a window where the customer chooses what the add-on is for and answers the questions
On product pagesA checkbox in the "Optional add-ons" box on the page of every product that matches the rules
Inside another add-onA checkbox in the other add-on's window, under "Also"

Save saves every place at once. Cancel brings back what is saved. ⋯ › Stop offering removes every place. The product stays. Lines already in a cart are removed at the next check.

Rules and conditions

A place has rules (product pages) or conditions (the cart). Choose all of these when all must hold and any of these when one is enough.

TypeMatchesProduct pagesThe cart
CategoryProducts in the category and in all its subcategoriesYesYes
VendorProducts with the vendorYesYes
TagProducts with the tagYesYes
One productOne productYesYes
Name starts with, Name ends with, Name containsProducts whose name starts with, ends with or contains the text. Upper and lower case count the sameYesNo

A place has at most 50 rules or conditions. A text is at most 80 characters. Under the rules the card says how many active products match now. Show all lists them. A product without a vendor matches no Vendor rule, and the card says how many of the matches have no vendor.

In the cart and checkout

A condition counts the products in the cart: At least 1 to 99 from, for example, the category Blades. With several conditions and all of these, the cart must have at least 1 from Blades and 1 from Rubbers.

SettingWhat it does
It belongs toThe product the add-on belongs to, for example "one product from Blades". The customer chooses which in the window. The add-on is charged once per such product. With 2 of the same blade in the cart, the customer can add a second one. Empty: the add-on belongs to the cart while the conditions hold
Customer picks up toHow many the customer picks from another condition, 1 to 10. For example up to 2 rubbers the gluing is for. Empty: nothing is picked from it
Show a line about it on … pagesA line on the pages of the products in the conditions, for example "Gluing €11.99 · +1 day. Add it in the cart with Rubbers." The line is built from the add-on's name, price, extra days and the conditions. You write nothing yourself

Inside another add-on

Choose the add-on it sits in under Inside, for example Gluing. It must be an add-on offered in the cart. Under Customer picks its you choose whether the customer ticks which of the other add-on's picks it is for, for example which of the rubbers get Boost. The add-on is removed when the other add-on is removed, and is charged once each time the other add-on is added.

A starter can add new products to an add-on's product pages, see Starters.

Sold only as an add-on

Tick Sold only as an add-on in the ADD-ON card when the product is not sold on its own, for example Boost, which is only done with a gluing. The choice is saved at once. The storefront leaves it out of every list:

  • All products, the category pages and the search
  • the menu panel's products, the featured products and the bestsellers
  • "Goes well with" in the cart and "You may also like" on the product page
  • the product feeds and the sitemap

A category with only such products is left out of the menu, as an empty category is. The add-on is still offered where its places say. The designer leaves it out of the same lists.

Its own page is not found in the storefront. The designer still shows it under Preview with, in the group Sold only as an add-on.

In the cart it stands only under the line it belongs to, goods too. A line that belongs to nothing, for example from an old cart, is removed, and the cart says "Boost is sold only as an add-on and was removed." ("Boost säljs bara som tillval och togs bort." in a Swedish storefront). Both checkouts and Kustom's last check before the purchase stop such a line.

⋯ › Stop offering also turns the choice off, so the product is sold on its own again. The choice needs a place: it cannot be turned on before a place is saved, and a Save that leaves no place turns it off too. A service that can also be bought on its own, for example gluing for a racket sent in, should not have the choice.

What the customer sees

The "Optional add-ons" box on the product page

The box "Optional add-ons" ("Tillval" in a Swedish storefront) shows when at least one add-on matches the product and is visible in the storefront. An add-on without a price, in draft, not in the storefront or hidden does not show.

The customer ticks the add-on. It goes into the cart with the same quantity as the main product. A service belongs to the main product's line: it stands under the line and is removed with it, and it is never more than the main product. Goods go in as their own line. Goods sold only as an add-on belong to the line, as a service does.

The add-on's variants and stock decide what the customer sees:

The add-on hasThe customer sees
No variants, or one variant in stockA checkbox with the price
Several variantsA checkbox and a list of the variants. The list shows the variants sold now, with the price where it differs. The customer chooses the variant there
Several variants, but every one sold is on preorderThe add-on's name as a link and "Preorder on its page"
Several variants and an older database without the listThe add-on's name as a link and "Choose a variant on its page". The customer chooses the variant on the add-on's page
One variant that is sold out, or only variants that are sold out"Out of stock". The customer cannot tick the box
One variant on preorderThe add-on's name as a link and "Preorder on its page"
Questions, on a service or goodsA checkbox. When the customer ticks it, the questions show under the box, and required questions must be answered before anything goes into the cart
Extra days"+1 day", "+2 days" after the price

With your own HTML for the product page, the box and the line about cart add-ons show under your HTML. The add-to-cart button in your HTML adds what the customer ticked, and the questions must be answered as usual. See Template reference.

The "Add-ons" row in the cart and checkout

The row shows in the cart drawer, on the cart page and in the first step of the checkout, when the cart meets the conditions. It does not show in the payment step of the checkout, because the amount at Kustom is locked. A Swedish storefront shows "Tillägg" and "Lägg till". The row shows the name, the price and the extra days.

"Add" on goods without questions puts them in the cart as their own line. The row does not show goods already in the cart. A service, or goods sold only as an add-on, does not show when every product it can belong to already has it. When the add-on has several variants, the customer chooses one in a list in the row, and the price follows. Only variants sold now are in the list.

"Add" on a service, on goods sold only as an add-on or on goods with questions opens a window. Goods that are not sold only as an add-on belong to no line: the window asks only for the variant and the answers, and the goods go in as their own line. For a service:

  1. The customer chooses the product the add-on belongs to, for example which blade. A blade that already has the add-on shows "Already has gluing". With only one blade the window says "The only one in your cart."
  2. The customer ticks what is picked, for example up to 2 rubbers. A rubber already in another gluing cannot be chosen.
  3. The customer answers the questions.
  4. Under "Also" the customer can tick the add-ons that sit inside this one.
  5. "Add · €11.99" puts everything in the cart. The total counts what is ticked.

When the add-on has several variants, a list of them stands at the top of the window, with each variant's price. The choice from the row is chosen.

On a phone the window opens as a sheet from the bottom. Escape and "Cancel" close it without adding anything.

In the cart

An add-on stands under the product it belongs to, with what the customer chose, for example "With Rakza 7 and Tenergy 05", and the answers. "Change" opens the window again. "Remove" removes the add-on and what sits inside it.

The customerThe add-on
Removes the product it belongs toIs removed. The cart says, for example, "Gluing and Boost were removed with Resonate GI."
Removes everything that was pickedIs removed
Lowers the quantity of the product it belongs toIs never more than the product. With 2 blades and 2 gluings, one blade fewer leaves 1 gluing
Raises the quantityDoes not change. The customer can add another from the "Add-ons" row
The cart no longer meets the conditionsIs removed. The cart says "Gluing no longer belongs to anything in your cart and was removed."
The cart has a line sold only as an add-on that belongs to nothingIs removed. The cart says, for example, "Boost is sold only as an add-on and was removed."

The same add-on for two different products makes two lines.

The delivery time

A service with extra days adds the days, in business days, to the delivery time in the checkout. After the estimated delivery it says, for example, "Includes 1 day for Gluing." With several services the one with the most days counts, not the sum.

After the purchase the days stay on the order. The order confirmation, the email and the customer's order page add them to the carrier's delivery time, for example "3–4 business days. Includes 2 days for Gluing and Boost." This also holds for a service bought on its own.

In the checkout and on the order

The checkout checks the add-ons again. An add-on that no longer belongs to anything in the cart, for example because the rule has changed, is removed from the cart, and the customer sees what was removed:

  • In the Kustom checkout it is removed before the payment window opens. The amount in the window is without the add-on.
  • In a checkout without Kustom no order is placed. The customer sees what was removed and places the order again.

If Kustom still gets such an order, the purchase stops with "An add-on in the order no longer belonged to what it was added for. No payment was taken."

The checkout also stops a line sold only as an add-on that belongs to nothing.

A service add-on stands under the line it belongs to. A goods add-on is a line of its own, except goods sold only as an add-on: they stand under the line too. The answers to a goods add-on's questions are on the order, the packing slip and in the emails, as a service's are.

WhereWhat happens
The order pageThe add-on stands under the line it belongs to, with what the customer chose and the answers
The packing slipThe add-on stands indented under the line it belongs to, with what the picks are called and what the customer chose, for example Rubbers: Rakza 7 (2,0 / Red). An older order shows With. See The pack flow
The pick listA picked line says what it goes into after the order number, for example #1047 ×1 (Gluing → Resonate GI). Goods that hang under a line say For Resonate GI. See The pack flow
The receiptThe add-on stands indented under the line it belongs to, with the picks and the answers. See The order page
The emailsThe add-on stands under the line it belongs to, in the order confirmation, the shipping email and your new-order email
ProSmartA service is sent when it has a SKU, see Services. Goods are sent like any other line, with the variant's SKU. See ProSmart

On a product that is not an add-on, Add-ons offered here stands in the Details card: the add-ons offered on its page or in the cart with it. The list is read only. Open opens the add-on.

Add-ons from before October 2026

Add-ons that were linked straight to a product were moved to rules. Each add-on got a place On product pages with any of these and one One product rule per product it was linked to. The customer sees the same as before.
