Services
Sell work such as gluing or printing: no stock and no shipping, with questions to the customer and extra days on the delivery time.
A service is a product that is work, for example gluing a blade or printing on a shirt. It has no stock, no weight and no parcel. The customer answers questions you decide on, for example "How should we glue it?".
Where: Products › [product], the Type, Delivery and ProSmart cards.
Make a product a service
- Open the product.
- Choose Service in the Type card.
- Press Make it a service.
Under Products › Add-ons, New add-on › Work you do creates a new service at once, see Add-ons.
The Shipping card is replaced by the Delivery card. The stock and weight columns go from Variants. The product's variants get the stock mode In stock (manual), so the product cards and the search always show the service as available. That holds for every variant of the service, including ones added, imported or changed later. The service is not listed under Products › Inventory, and the bulk Stock mode and Weight & size skip it, see Change many products.
If you choose Physical product again, stock and weight count as before. The variants keep In stock (manual) until you change their stock mode under Variants. The questions stay, and the storefront still asks them. Remove them under Questions to the customer if they should not be asked.
Questions to the customer
- Press Edit under Questions to the customer.
- Press + Add question.
- Fill in Question, for example "Hur vill du ha limningen?".
- Fill in English if the storefront is in English. Left empty, the storefront shows Question.
- Fill in Placeholder if you like, for example "E.g. Rakza 7 on forehand". The text stands in the empty box until the customer types. For a choice it stands in place of "Choose". The English field next to it is used in an English storefront.
- Choose Type:
- Choice: the customer picks from a list. Write the options in Options, comma-separated, for example "Forehand, Backhand, Both".
- Text: the customer writes. Longest answer (characters) is 100 when you leave it empty, at most 500.
- Required is ticked for a new question. Untick it if the customer may skip the question.
- Press Save.
A service takes at most 10 questions. A question and an option are at most 80 characters, a placeholder at most 120. The arrows change the order and the cross removes a question. A problem shows in the card, and nothing is saved until it is fixed.
A question that ends with a question mark stands on a line of its own, with the answer on the line under it, on the order, the packing slip and in the emails. Otherwise the question and the answer share a line, for example "Print text: Anna".
Questions on goods
Goods can ask questions too, for example a bat cover as an add-on: "Which colour on the edge?". Questions to the customer shows in the Type card on goods with the ADD-ON card open, and on goods that already have questions. The questions are asked where the goods go into the cart: at the add-on's checkbox, in the window in the cart and on the goods' own page. A product card opens the goods' page. The checkout checks the answers as for a service, and the answers are on the order, the packing slip and in the emails.
Extra days
The Delivery card has Extra days: business days the service adds to the delivery time, 0 to 30. The product page shows, for example, "+1 day to the delivery time", and the add-on shows "+1 day" after the price. In the checkout the days are added to the estimated delivery while the service is in the cart. See Add-ons.
After the purchase the days stay on the order. The order confirmation, the email and the customer's order page add them to the carrier's delivery time, also for a service bought on its own.
What the customer sees
The questions show where the service is chosen:
| Where | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| As an add-on on another product's page | The questions under the box, once the customer has ticked the service. See Add-ons |
| In the window from the "Add-ons" row in the cart and the checkout | The questions under what the customer chooses. See Add-ons |
| On the service's own page | The questions above the button. No stock row and no shipping card |
| A product card | The service's page opens when the service has questions or several variants. Otherwise it goes into the cart at once |
| "Goes well with" in the cart and the checkout | Not shown. See Goes well with |
An empty required question stops the button, and the question shows "Fill in …" or "Choose …". Nothing goes into the cart until every required question is answered.
The answers show under the line in the cart and the checkout. The same service with other answers is a line of its own.
In the checkout
The checkout checks the answers again: a required question must have an answer, a choice must be one of the options, and a text must not be longer than the limit. When an answer is missing or does not match, the purchase stops, and the customer is asked to remove the line and add it again from the product page.
A cart of services only needs no shipping method. The checkout shows "No shipping method is needed. The cart holds services only." and charges no shipping.
In Kustom the line is named after the service and the answers, for example "Limning – Forehand". The line has the same name when the money is captured and when it is refunded.
ProSmart
The ProSmart card shows on a service when ProSmart is connected.
| The service has | What is sent |
|---|---|
| A SKU under Variants | A line with the SKU as the article number. Write ProSmart's article number as the SKU |
| No SKU | Nothing. The ProSmart card on the order says Not sent to ProSmart: and the service. The push does not stop on it |
Quantity sent sets the quantity on the line:
| Choice | Quantity | Unit price |
|---|---|---|
| One per pick from … | One per thing the customer picked, times the line's quantity. Gluing 2 rubbers is sent as 2 | The line's amount without VAT divided by the quantity, rounded to whole cents |
| The same as the order line | The line's quantity | The line's price without VAT |
A service bought on its own page, with nothing picked, is sent with the line's quantity. The preview on the order shows the line before it is sent. See Order push.
On the order
| Where | What happens |
|---|---|
| The order page | The line is marked Service, with the extra days, for example +1 day, and the answers under it. A service that is an add-on stands under the line it belongs to |
| The customer's emails | The answers under the line in the order confirmation and the shipping notice |
| Your new-order email | The answers under the line. The email is in English and shows the English question where you filled it in, otherwise Question |
| The customer's order page | The answers under the line on the page after the purchase, and when the customer looks the order up under "Track your order". An order of services only shows No shipping, and Country instead of Delivery country. The delivery time counts the service's extra days |
| The packing slip | The service after the goods, marked Service, with the answers under it. An add-on stands indented under the line it belongs to, with what the picks are called, for example Rubbers: Rakza 7. See The pack flow |
| The pick list | The service is not on it. There is nothing to pick |
| Stock | Nothing is taken at purchase, and removing or changing the line moves no stock. When the order is cancelled or refunded, or a refund puts items back in stock, the units are still added to the service's variant. The shop does not use that count for a service |
| Delivery | The service goes with the first shipment. See Fulfilment |
| ProSmart | The service is sent when it has a SKU, see above |
| The product feed | The service is not in it. See Product feeds |
A customer can ask to return a service in the returns portal, like any line. You decide in the review. Work already done, or a print made to the customer's wishes, normally has no right of withdrawal.
