Store pickup

The Store pickup method: address and opening hours, home country only, and the order in two steps: ready for pickup, then picked up.

Last updated · 6 min read

With Store pickup the customer collects the order in your physical shop.

Where: Settings › Shipping, the Store pickup button in the Methods card.

Set up pickup

  1. Open Settings › Shipping.
  2. Press Store pickup. The form gets the sender address as a suggestion.
  3. Check that the address is the shop the customer collects from, not a warehouse.
  4. Fill in the opening hours and the fields in the table.
  5. Press Save method.

The list shows the method as Store pickup · [city]. It applies to every storefront in the workspace. Pickup books no parcel and prints no label.

Pickup has no Free above and no pickup point. Edit opens the same form. A change applies to new orders, because each order saves the address from the purchase.

Home country only

The checkout offers Store pickup only when the customer chooses the workspace's home country, for example Sweden. The VAT is then domestic, and the OSS report counts a domestic sale. The customer needs an address in the home country: the checkout asks for a postal code there, and Kustom takes a billing address there only. The checkout refuses pickup in another country.

What the customer sees

  • The checkout shows pickup among the shipping methods with the shop's name and address. If it costs 0, it says "Free".
  • The checkout never preselects pickup. If there are other methods, it selects the cheapest of them.
  • If the customer picks pickup, opening hours and instructions show. The summary says "Collect in store". The payment step says "Collect at" with the shop's address.
  • Pickup does not count as free shipping on the product page or in the search engines' product data.
  • The order confirmation says "You'll get an email when it is ready to collect." and shows the shop's address and opening hours.
  • The order page shows where the order is collected and its state: being prepared, ready to collect with the last day, or collected. A cancelled order shows "No pickup".

Mark as ready for pickup

  1. Pick and pack the order.
  2. Press Ready for pickup on the order, or Mark ready for pickup in the pack view.
  3. Confirm.

The order shows READY FOR PICKUP. The customer gets the email "Your order … is ready to collect" with address, opening hours, instructions and "Collect it by". The last day is the day you mark it plus Hold for. BunStack captures no money yet. A second press sends no new email.

The pack view shows "Pickup email sent …" or "Pickup email NOT SENT". If the email did not arrive, send it again with ⋯ Actions › Resend pickup email. The button is not on a held order.

Warning: With On fulfilment, BunStack captures the money when you press Picked up. Kustom's authorisation lasts 28 days from the purchase. The last pickup day is therefore day 27 at the latest. If the authorisation runs out within 2 days, BunStack does not mark the order as ready: capture first with ⋯ Actions › Capture payment.

Hand the order over

  1. Check the customer's ID against the name on the order. Order numbers run in sequence, so the number is not enough.
  2. Press Picked up on the order and confirm.
  3. Hand over the goods when the page says "Picked up. The payment is captured: hand the order over."

The order shows PICKED UP. BunStack sends no email here. With On fulfilment BunStack captures the money in step 2. If the capture fails, the order stays READY FOR PICKUP. Do not hand over the goods then.

If you refund lines before the handover, Picked up captures only what is left of the authorisation. With ProSmart connected, the order goes to ProSmart at Picked up, as after a shipment. See ProSmart.

A pickup order has no Fulfill order and no labels. Only Picked up records the handover.

Orders nobody collects

  • The order in the admin shows the last day under Store pickup.
  • BunStack cancels nothing automatically. Cancel the order with ⋯ Actions › Cancel order. Kustom releases the authorisation and the goods go back to stock.
  • If the authorisation runs out before the last pickup day, or within 3 days, the order shows The Kustom authorisation expires … Capture with ⋯ Actions › Capture payment if the customer comes later. Picked up then captures nothing more.

If you ship the order instead: record the parcel with New shipment and a tracking number. The customer gets the shipped email. The order becomes SHIPPED and shows Store pickup · sent as a parcel.

In admin

  • Orders: the status filter Ready for pickup and the row ready for pickup under Needs you. A ready order does not count in to ship.
  • Home shows N orders ready for pickup.
  • The pack queue marks pickup orders PICKUP. Ready orders are under the Ready for pickup tab. If a ready order is held, it moves to Held. See The pack flow.
  • The packing slip shows CUSTOMER instead of SHIP TO, STORE PICKUP with the shop's address, and "Picked up" with the date after the handover.
  • The Customer card on the order shows Store pickup with the shop. The customer's address shows as Customer address.
