Attributes

Attribute groups with typed definitions. Each definition chooses how it shows in the storefront: bar, chips, text row, badge, filter only or hidden.

Attributes describe the product, for example Material: Cotton or Weight: 85 g. Here you build groups and definitions, and choose how each property shows in the storefront.

Where: Products › Attributes.

Groups

A group collects definitions, for example Fabric or Dimensions.

  1. Type the group's name in the "New group" field.
  2. Press + Group.
  3. Choose categories under the line Applies to.

Without categories the group applies to every product: Applies to: every product. With categories it applies to products in them, subcategories included. The line names the categories. If you delete a group, its definitions stay with all their values, but without a group.

Definitions

Each definition is a row with its name, type, Shown as, Filter (✓ or —) and Products, the number of products with a value. Edit opens the editor under the row. Save saves and closes, Cancel closes without saving.

FieldChoices
NameThe name in the storefront: in Details, by the bar and in the filters
GroupThe group the definition belongs to. Choose another group to move it
TypeText, Number, Choice or Yes / no
UnitThe unit for a number, for example g or mm. Number only
OptionsThe values for Choice, with commas between them. value=Text shows another text in the storefront
Shown asHow the property shows, see the next section
ScaleFrom and To for a bar. Bar only
Offer as a filterTicked, the definition can be a filter on the collection pages

Delete definition deletes the definition and every value the products have for it. You cannot undo it.

If you change the type between number, text and yes/no, the storefront does not show the saved values until they are set again on each product. The editor says how many products that affects before you save.

How a property shows

Shown as is chosen once per definition and applies to every storefront in the workspace.

ChoiceWhere it shows in the storefront
BarA bar in the buy column, under the short description. Number only
ChipsOne chip per value in Details
Text rowName and value in the Details table. The default for a new definition
BadgeA small framed label above the product name, "Name: value"
Filter onlyIn the category filters, not on the product page
HiddenNot in the storefront. The value stays in the admin and in exports

Filter only is always a filter, so the Offer as a filter box is ticked and locked. Hidden is never a filter, so the box is empty and locked. To take a property off the product page but keep it in the filters, choose Filter only.

Chips split the value at commas. A comma between two digits does not split, so 42,5 is one chip.

Bars

The number stands next to the bar, without the scale. The bar's length shows where the number lies between From and To. The default is 0–100.

  • A value above To fills the bar, and the number stays.
  • A value below From gives an empty bar.
  • The bars follow the order the definitions have in their groups.

The bars show when the Properties section is on the product page and Show bars is on, see Page templates. Otherwise the Bar properties are rows like the others.

If the product has no Bar definition, the storefront draws bars for free-form attributes named Speed, Control, Spin, Power, Feel or Hardness with a number as their value, on the scale 0–100. They are then not in Details as well.

Preview

Next to the fields, or under them on a narrow screen, a real product shows as in the storefront. It has the first storefront's colours and fonts.

  • What you change shows before you save.
  • The definition you are editing has a yellow ring.
  • The price is in the base currency, the currency the product's price is saved in.
  • Preview with chooses the product. The products with a value for the definition come first, the one with the most values at the top.
  • If the definition is a Bar and the storefront's product page has Show bars off, the line under the preview says so.

Several values per product

Choice takes one value per product. A property with several values per product, for example a handle that comes as "Straight, Concave", is Text with commas between the values. The filters and Chips split the value at commas.

On the product

The Details card on the product shows each group that applies to the product, with the right field per type.

In the storefront, Details is a table. When the product has rows from two or more groups, each group's name stands as a heading. Definitions without a group and free-form attributes come last, under the heading "Other" in an English storefront and "Övrigt" in a Swedish one. With rows from one group only there is no heading.

A starter chooses no attributes. A product created from a starter gets the groups that apply to its categories, see Starters.

Filters in the storefront

A category page on Automatic shows the definitions with Filter ticked, in the definitions' order, and then free-form attributes. A filter needs 2–20 different values in the category. If every value is a number it does not become a filter. A category with its own list shows only the list's filters, see Categories. A definition without Filter cannot be on the list. How the filters look is chosen under Components › Collection page in the designer: Sidebar, Row above the grid or Hidden.

A text value with commas becomes one filter value per part: "Straight, Concave" gives Straight and Concave. A comma between two digits does not split, so 42,5 and ~5,2 mm are one value each. Numbers are listed smallest first, and a leading ~ does not count. Clothing sizes run from XS to XXL, and text is in alphabetical order. A Choice lists its values in the order under Options.

Free-form attributes

An import can give products free-form attributes. They are under Free-form attributes in the Details card, and come from attr: columns in CSV. They show in the "Details" table and can become filters. When a definition has the same label, in any letter case, the storefront ignores the free-form attribute and follows the definition.

Move them into typed definitions:

  1. Press Scan products under Import from product data.
  2. Choose a group under Put new definitions in group.
  3. Press Create definitions + move values.

BunStack creates one definition per label and recognises numbers. Labels that differ only in letter case or spaces become one definition, for example "Outer layer" and "Outer Layer". It moves each value into the product's typed attribute and removes it from the free-form attributes. If a product has both spellings with different values, the first moves and the second stays free-form. A value that is not a number also stays when the definition is Number. The line DONE shows how many values moved. New definitions show as Text row. Then change the group and how each one shows.
